Virtues

The pillars of any society are deep rooted in it’s value system and virtues. It is through these values, a strong and long-lasting foundation is developed, which helps the society grow, stand test of time and wither storms. Each society tries to create a value system that will be core of it’s individuals, families, communities, societies, organizations and countries. If we look closely at most societies there will be a few values that are common to most, like liberty, equality, freedom of speech etc. However, these rights are much higher in any value system. A value system creates the social belief, which are aided with one’s personal beliefs. Our beliefs and values sit on the bed-rock of our virtues. There are a few virtues which, I feel are fundamental to human nature:

  1. Kindness
  2. Patience
  3. Honesty
  4. Humility
  5. Forgiveness

I have tried to understand why are these virtues so important in our lives. For example, when I do a random act of kindness; I feel happy. By acting on our virtues we feel happier and that’s what we will explore this month.

We all are virtuous in our own ways. We will explore, how to focus on bringing out the existing virtues in different ways. We will work on polishing these virtues by applying them into our day to day life. Specifically, we will be kind to our bodies, our relationships, our work and finally our environment. Each week, I will send out a thought-provoking blog or an article, with an associated activity, that will help you reflect more on who you are as an individual.
